W/Purpose is proud to have contributed to the revitalization of the historic 1946 Art Moderne home at 1948 Chicago Blvd in Detroit. This remarkable residence, once owned by Dr. Donovan Givens, a distinguished Black physician from Indianapolis, has been meticulously restored to preserve its architectural legacy while introducing modern functionality.

Spanning 2,600 square feet, the home features the sleek, streamlined design typical of the Art Moderne style, with clean lines and a forward-thinking aesthetic. The renovation expertly preserves the home’s historic integrity while making thoughtful upgrades to improve both its form and function.

A deeply personal connection enhances the significance of this project. Wil Marquez, the architect and founder of W/Purpose, hails from Indianapolis, the same city as Dr. Givens, which adds an emotional layer to the restoration. The project honors Dr. Givens’ legacy and connects past and present.

The restoration also benefited from the expertise of UNILAND, the contractor, who helped bring the vision to life. Together, these efforts have enriched the Boston Edison neighborhood, creating a lasting tribute to history, community, and familial ties while embracing contemporary living.
