La Joya Gardens, a $24 million mixed-use development, is set to be the “gem” of the Hubbard Farms Historic District in Southwest Detroit. This “high-grade” community-driven project will provide 53 apartments, including 42 designated as affordable housing, with rents as low as $500 per month for a one-bedroom. The development features 6,000 square feet of retail space and 1,500 square feet of community space, fostering social gatherings and cultural programming for tenets.

Inspired by a community- SITIO Architecture and local design studio Design Think Tank ushered in a thoughtful concept that is meaningful and more important - forwarded thinking. The building's modern appeal and “gem” status holds the street edge and integrates well into the scale and attitude of the neighborhood.  The success of the project's architecture in large part can be attributed to the groundwork and local engagement with area residents whose voices were instrumental in the project's success.

w/Purpose was invited in 2023 to assist in an owners representative capacity to help oversee construction and design for developer Cinneair.

One of the most aspirational components of the project is Café Clark, a vital addition to the Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA)’s mission to support local entrepreneurship. Led by Mili and Eduardo, Café Clark aims to serve as a gathering space for residents while offering a platform for local talent and flavors to thrive. The café’s vision extends beyond serving coffee—it’s about building connections, supporting small businesses, and enhancing the social fabric of the neighborhood.

To bring this vision to life, a fundraising campaign is underway, inviting community members and supporters to contribute to the café’s success. By investing in Café Clark, donors will play a direct role in strengthening local businesses and fostering a welcoming space that embodies the spirit of Southwest Detroit.

With La Joya Gardens taking shape and Café Clark on the horizon, this development marks a major milestone in community-driven progress, setting a new standard for equitable growth and inclusive urban transformation.
